Packing Efficiently for Spring Break: Smart Strategies for a Stress-Free Trip
Spring break is meant to be relaxing, but packing for it can be stressful! Whether you're heading to the beach, visiting family, or taking a ski getaway, packing efficiently can make your trip smoother from the moment you leave the house.
As a professional organizer, I feel overwhelmed when I pack too much. My goal is always to pack exactly what I need, without anything extra. Here are some of my favorite tips to help you stay organized, save space, and reduce stress this spring break.
1. Use Packing Cubes
I love using packing cubes to categorize your clothing, and save space. Try this set from Amazon!
How to use them effectively:
Assign one cube per category (tops, bottoms, pajamas, swimwear, workout clothes, etc.).
Use a small cube for undergarments and socks.
Use a separate cube for dirty laundry during the trip.
When I arrive at our destination, I like to take about 10 minutes to unpack everything into dressers and closets.
I keep the categories together, but that way, I’m not living out of a suitcase during my trip.
2. Plan to Do Laundry
If your rental or hotel has laundry available, take advantage of it. Packing with laundry in mind can significantly reduce the number of outfits you need to bring.
Pack versatile pieces you can mix and match
Plan on doing one load mid-week.
By re-wearing items during the trip, you can reduce the amount of clothing you pack, which is especially helpful if you're traveling with kids.
3. Wear Your Bulky Items to the Airport
Bulky sneakers, boots, sweaters, and jackets take up valuable suitcase space. Instead of packing them, wear them while traveling.
This works especially well for:
Tennis shoes or boots
Sweatshirts or denim jackets
Airports and airplanes are often chilly anyway, so you’ll stay comfortable while freeing up space in your bag.
4. Use Hanging Door Organizers for Kids’ Outfits
One of my favorite tricks for kids’ items is to pack within a hanging door shoe organizer.
Place a full outfit into each pocket.
Hang over the door when you arrive
This makes mornings easier on vacation!
I hope you’ve enjoyed these simple packing tips and find them helpful as you prepare for your next trip! Safe travels and happy organizing!
